Ontario Lottery Games

The Ontario Lottery offers various games, including scratch-off tickets, lottery draws and instant play games. The most popular games are Lotto Max, Lotto 6/49 and Ontario 49. Daily Grand and Keno are also popular with players. Still, if you fancy something a little different, there are Poker Lotto, Megadice Lotto and Encore.

Depending on the game, draws can occur daily, weekly, bi-weekly, or even monthly. For example, Lotto 6/49 and Lotto Max are held twice a week.

In addition to these regular games, the Ontario Lottery also offers a range of special games throughout the year, such as holiday-themed scratch-offs and extra draws for larger jackpots.

Another popular type of game is Scratch tickets, in which you simply need to scratch off the indicated panels to reveal symbols or numbers that have to match various winning combinations depending on the Scratch game you’ve chosen. Super Set For Life, Crossword Connection, and Cash for Life are among the most popular.

The tickets for scratch-off games vary in price, from CAD 1.00 to CAD 30.00, and can be bought at any lottery retailer.

No matter what type of game you’re looking for, the Ontario Lottery has something for everyone.

Winning Numbers and Payout

Winning numbers and payouts are produced and determined by a computer program known as a Random Number Generator (RNG).

Payouts can be based on a combination of numbers, such as in a lottery where the chances of picking all six winning numbers are 1 in 20 million. As the odds are significantly higher, the payouts are much larger than for correctly choosing a single number. Payouts can also be affected by the number of people playing and the amount of money wagered.

Who Can Play Lottery Games in Ontario, Canada?

You must be 18 or older to play the lottery in Ontario. If you are a minor, you can still purchase tickets as a gift for someone else, as long as they are of legal age.

You do not have to be a resident of Ontario to purchase tickets or win prizes, but you must be within the province when you claim your winnings.

How to Play Lottery Games?

Playing the lottery is easy, whether buying a ticket in-store or online.

If you’re buying a ticket in-store, simply ask the retailer for the game you want to play and they will provide you with a playslip. Then wait for the draw and check whether the numbers you’ve chosen match those drawn.

If you want to play online, create an account on the Ontario Lottery website or download the lottery app. Once you’re logged in, you can choose the game you want to play and purchase your tickets. Then you have to select your numbers and wait for the draw. Suppose you don’t want to decide on the numbers yourself. In that case, you can go for the Quick Pick, which will automatically generate the numbers.

Should you miss any draws which you want to check, you can find the latest results on the websites of the games.

The Encore game is available for an additional CAD 1.00.

Ontario 49

Ontario 49 is a lottery only available in Ontario, similar to Lotto 6/49.

Ontario 49 gives you a chance to win a fixed jackpot of $2 million for a single CAD 1.00. All you need to do is choose six numbers from a range of 1 to 49 and keep your fingers crossed.

The odds of winning are one in 13,983,816, while the odds of any lesser prize in Ontario 49 are one in seven.

Daily Keno

Daily Keno takes place two times a day.

A single ticket will cost either CAD 1, CAD 2, CAD 5 or CAD 10, the cost acting as a multiplier for the amount you will win if your numbers match. For example, matching 2 numbers for CAD 1 will win you CAD 7 whereas wagering $10 for the same 2 numbers will win you 10x that amount.

To play, you need to decide both how many numbers you want to match (2 – 10 numbers) and how much you want to spend on a ticket, bearing in mind that the odds increase with the amount of numbers you choose. Following that, you must select your numbers from a pool of 1-70.

The odds of winning the jackpot, which is CAD 2.5 million, are 1 in 2,147,181.

PokerLotto

Poker Lotto, a combination of Poker and Lottery, offers an instant win element and a nightly draw. The main difference is that playing card symbols are used instead of regular numbers.

To play it, simply buy a ticket using the Quick Pick option. You will see five cards dealt from a standard 52-card deck, and the aim is to get winning poker hands, such as 3 of a kind, flush etc. A Royal flush will win you the jackpot of $5000.

You can also opt to play the add-on ‘All In’ game for an extra dollar which gives you the added opportunity to win prizes up to a jackpot of CAD 10,000 minimum.

The odds of winning the Poker Lotto Jackpot are 1 in 649,740, and for runner up prizes 1 in 4. The chances of winning the All-In Jackpot are 1 in 2,598,960 or 1 in 15 for lesser prizes.

A single ticket for PokerLotto costs CAD 2.00.

MegaDice Lotto

MegaDice Lotto is a two-part lottery game with weekly draws. It has two fixed jackpots: CAD 100,000 for the main draw and CAD 7,500 for the Instant Win Game.

To play the lottery, buy a Quick Pick ticket for $2.00. You’ll then see your six numbers from 1 to 39 appear on the customer display screen and if you’re lucky, see a winning combo.

The odds of winning the main Megadice Lotto jackpot are 1 in 3,262,623, while the odds for the Instant Win jackpot are 1 in 279,936. The overall odds of winning a prize in the main draw are 1 in 3.7 and 1 in 4.3 for Instant Win.

Wheel of Fortune Lotto

The ‘Wheel of Fortune’ TV show concept is familiar to many people. Contestants spin the wheel and hope it stops with the ‘pointer’ on a prize segment of the wheel.

Wheel of Fortune Lotto is much the same, but instead of watching a ‘live’ display, a wheel and pointer graphic is printed on your ticket. You win the prize if the graphic shows the pointer on a prize segment. Although the retailer’s customer display screen shows a spinning wheel, this is for entertainment purposes only.

A ticket costs CA$ 2; aside from the W.O.F graphic, you’ll be allocated six random words for the nightly draw. Words are drawn from a pool of 39, and should you match all six of them, you win the jackpot. A minimum prize of CAD 3 is won if a player matches three words.

Lottario

Lottario is another game that is available for players in Ontario. It takes place every Saturday and has a guaranteed jackpot of at least CAD 250,000. The odds of winning the Lottario jackpot are 1 in 4,072,530.

To play this game, choose six numbers from a range of 1–45 or opt for the Quick Pick.

Lottario has a unique feature that other lotteries don’t offer, known as ‘Early Bird’ draw. This extra draw is only available to those who enter the main draw before midnight on Friday and offers the chance to win an additional CAD 50,000 at no extra cost.

Lightning Lotto

Lightning Lotto is a Quick Pick game where you get three sets of five numbers. Each play costs CAD 2.00.

What makes this lottery unique is that the winning numbers are picked each day before tickets are sold, so players find out immediately whether they’ve become winners or not.

The odds of winning the Lightning Lotto jackpot are 1 in 1,906,884.

Pick 2

In Pick 2, players must select two numbers from 00-99 or can go for a Quick Pick to receive a randomly selected 2-digit number. The lottery is drawn twice a day, with the first draw taking place at 2 p.m. local time and the second at 10:30 p.m. Each play costs CAD 2.00.

To participate in Pick 2, choose two numbers from 0 to 9, or take a Quick Pick if you like. Because the numbers are chosen independently, each number may be selected twice.

Pick 2 odds of matching both digits are 1 in 100, and the odds of matching the first number are 1 in 11.

Pick 3

Pick 3 is a three-digit lottery where you must choose a three-digit number between 000 and 999. If you don’t have any favourite lucky numbers, why not use the Quick Pick option instead? You should also decide how much you wish to wager – CAD 1.00, CAD 2.00 or CAD 10.00 per play. To win the prize, you must match the numbers drawn.

There are 2 options available: Straight Play and Box Play. The odds of winning the Straight Play jackpot are 1 in 1,000. For Box play, the odds are 1 in 167 (in this case, you need to match three digits in any order) and 1 in 333 (if two of the three drawn digits are identical).

Pick 4

Pick 4 is a lottery in Ontario that has two draws a day. Tickets cost CAD 1.00, with players selecting their own wagers and 4 numbers from 0 to 9, or they can choose the Quick Pick option. There are two options called ‘Straight play’ and ‘Box play.’ For the first, you need to match 4 digits in exact order. For the second, your lottery numbers can match the winning numbers drawn in any order.

The Pick 4 jackpot for the Straight play is CAD 5,000.00, and the chances of winning the jackpot are 1 in 10,000. Four separate cash prizes are available for winning the Box play depending on what combination of numbers you chose: CAD 1,250.00, CAD 800.00, CAD 400.00, and CAD 200.00.
